Scouting the Area (51)

My topic has not changed since the first blog post; I am continuing to research Area 51 and the extraterrestrial conspiracy theories surrounding it. While searching on Google, the keywords “Area 51”, “conspiracy theories,” “aliens,” “UFOs” are the most useful in my research. While searching on Google, I came across multiple articles that discuss the theory of Area 51 being a base for government activity on UFOs and aliens. Many of the more recent articles discuss the “raid” that was meant to happen in September of 2019. Additionally, there were also many videos on the topic; however, they seem to be video forms of the articles. One of the more interesting findings on Google is many documentaries such as “Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers”, “Area 51: The Alien Interview”, and “Storm Area 51 Film”. These documentaries include Bob Lazar’s input, a man who claims to have worked at Area 51 and nearby S-4. The Wikipedia page of Area 51 is not what I initially expected. A relatively small portion of the page is about UFOs titled “UFOs and other conspiracy theories.” The rest of the page describes the base as a United States AirForce facility and its geography, history, and military programs. More information was found about Area 51 and its connection with the UFO phenomenon in other Wikipedia pages such as “Bob Lazar,” “UFO conspiracy theory,” or “Storm Area 51”.

While searching on Amazon for sources of information, there were a few books available. “Area 51: An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base” by Annie Jacobson writes about men she interviewed that have worked at the base or were in contact with the base. “UFO Secrets Inside Wright-Patterson: Eyewitness Accounts from the Real Area 51,” written by Thomas J. Carey and Donald R. Schmitt, write about new eyewitness accounts, testimonies, and Project BlueBook files. A few additional books came up on Google Books and Google Scholars that discuss similar reports and cases. Similar articles and books were also found on the Rutgers library site. Nevertheless, there is an abundance of information found through various books and articles on Area 51 that needs to be looked into on a deeper level.

I got a few new ideas from this search; one of these is focusing one aspect of my research on Bob Lazar. Lazar is well known in the Area 51 conspiracy world as he claims to have been an engineer working on the UFOs in Area 51. There is also a lot of information on his claims, such as articles and documentaries. One of which is the documentary “Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers”. This documentary seems useful to me as it is recent (2018), and it includes Bob Lazar discussing his personal experiences. Another useful source would be the book by Annie Jacobson, and this seems important as it is a detailed book based on many eyewitness reports of those who worked at Area 51.

There are many controversies and debates over the Area 51 topic. A large portion of the population believes that there is nothing more to Area 51 besides being an AirForce facility.  Many believe that it is a government facility where UFOs and extraterrestrial life is tested and research, but there are other theories about the facility. Some believe that Area 51 is where the government is testing new weapons or where they are developing time travel and teleportation technology. Like other unexplained topics, there are many theories of what Area 51 could or not be. Still, there is enough evidence to consider the possibility that Area 51 is home to the UFO phenomenon.

  1. Annie Jacobson looks like a good source. And I find Bob Lazar very believable. He did a Joe Rogan podcast which was fascinating.

I received the Bob Lazar autobiography for Christmas but have not had a chance to read it.
