Summary

The documentary Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers takes viewers through Bob Lazar’s journey and all his claims. Bob Lazar is a physicist who claims to have worked on a UFO at S-4, a facility a part of Area 51. The filmmaker, Corbell, discusses various claims with Lazar. One of the prominent claims was of the hand scanner which Bob Lazar described years ago, but people failed to believe him. Years later, Corbell found a photograph of such a scanner, and Lazar confirmed that it was used in S-4. Additionally, throughout the documentary, Lazar went through great detail on how the aircraft he reverse-engineered worked. One particular discussion he had was about the propulsion of the aircraft that was a reactionless force, basically manipulated space and time to help the aircraft move forward. In addition to all the claims, viewers also got an insight into Lazar’s personal life as well. The documentary had brief interviews with his wife, mother, and some friends. It showed where Lazar worked now, which is a laboratory of his own. The film also showcased the negatives of being someone like Lazar, where his life was constantly under threat. During the filming of the documentary, his laboratory had been raided by the government, and according to Lazar, it wasn’t the first time something like this happened.

The film director is Jeremy Kenyon Lockyer Corbell, who is based in Los Angeles, California. He is a contemporary artist, documentary filmmaker, and mixed martial artist with education from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Value 

This documentary is one of the significant resources for my paper. It explores one aspect of my research question by somewhat backing up the theory that there is UFO and alien research at Area 51. It has a lot of information on Bob Lazar and his journey about his Area 51 claim from the time he first said it to now. The documentary also has many conversations with Lazar, which gave an insight into him and a first-hand account of the claims he made previously. Most importantly, the documentary was an excellent summary of Lazar’s claims and the background or proof supporting them.

Topic of Consideration

Area 51 has always been an area of national interest, especially amongst young people, including myself. Area 51 is technically a United States Air Force facility, but over the years, there has been a popular conspiracy theory alluding that Area 51 is where the US government does UFO and alien research. For a simple air force facility, this area is heavily protected with multiple signs warning people not to go in. Many even believe that the government holds aliens there for research. Many theorists believe that remains from the Roswell crash were taken to Area 51 to study. Some have even claimed to have worked inside and participated in the UFO research.  After some consideration and being a part of the generation that wanted to “raid” Area 51, I have chosen this topic as it spiked a lot of interest within me. Literature Review #1

Summary This book review summarizes some of the findings within Annie Jacobson’s “ Area 51: An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base .” It is discussed that Area 51 is where the U.S. government develops surveillance technologies. The review goes into some detail about other experiments occurring at the base involving nuclear weapons and the reverse engineering of foreign aircrafts. Many of the tests done at Area 51 are highly classified, with even high-ranking officials unaware of them. It also touches upon one of the cases which interested the reviewer involving a “Soviet ‘flying saucer.’” (Roche 73) The aircraft was made by captured German engineers in Russia which then proceeded to fly to the United States. Additionally, the aircraft even carried humans who were manipulated to look like aliens by Nazi scientists. Scouting the Area (51)

  My topic has not changed since the first blog post; I am continuing to research Area 51 and the extraterrestrial conspiracy theories surrounding it. While searching on Google, the keywords “Area 51”, “conspiracy theories,” “aliens,” “UFOs” are the most useful in my research. While searching on Google, I came across multiple articles that discuss the theory of Area 51 being a base for government activity on UFOs and aliens. Many of the more recent articles discuss the “raid” that was meant to happen in September of 2019. Additionally, there were also many videos on the topic; however, they seem to be video forms of the articles. One of the more interesting findings on Google is many documentaries such as “Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers”, “Area 51: The Alien Interview”, and “Storm Area 51 Film”.
